KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan University on Sunday decided to hold the free students union elections at its constituent colleges on February 25, 2017.
A Senate meeting of the oldest and largest university of the nation made the decision to this effect, according to a statement issued by TU the Information and Public Relation Division.
The meeting presided over by TU Chancellor and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli also endorsed the annual budget, policy and programme of the University for the coming fiscal 2016/17.
The University has announced the annual budget of Rs 18.25 billion for the next fiscal year.
The meeting also appointed Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof Dr Tara Prasad Sapkota as a member of the Executive Council.
The Senate approved the University plan to collect information about people who made financial contributions and donated lands to the TU and honour them.
Addressing the meeting, PM Oli said the University should play a significant role in production of human resources required for the national development.
The government was ready to extend needful support for the same, he assured.
TU Co-Chancellor and Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel stressed that the University should adapt itself to the changed context in order to address financial and administrative challenges the institute has been facing.
During the meeting, TU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Tirtha Raj Khaniya had spoken about strategies and future plans of the University.
Meanwhile, Oli also laid foundation stone for the new building of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor today.
